Heat Pumps Direct was founded by two Chartered Surveyors whose background is in property development and construction.

Having carried out extensive research into the feasibility of installing heat pumps into our own developments, we were convinced by the simplicity and performance of the technology to the extent that we now install heat pumps into most of our developments.

The units themselves are simple, robust and maintenance free - a similar principle to your domestic household fridge. Moreover, with the proposed introduction of the RHI due in June 2011, the financial incentives could prove compelling. As an example, a 16KW air source heat pump is likely to cost £4-5K more than a conventional fossil fuel system, however the consultation tariffs indicate that you are likely to receive a return of £2400/annum for 18 years ie. £43,200 giving a payback period on the extra expense of just two years.

Amongst the benefits, a heat pump is between three and four times more efficient than a standard boiler. For every kilowatt of energy you put in, you get four kilowatts of heat out. Notwithstanding the cost of electricity to run the pump, the efficiencies are such that fuel bills can be reduced dramatically when compared to most other fuels.
